Nemo Goes on a Long JourneyNemo is leaving home to go to start a new job in a new city –Sydney, Australia. The journey can be completed in four stages: leaving home, first transport, second transport, and final transport that delivers them to Sydney harbor. Nemo has to swim from their home to their first chosen transport method, of which there are three choices: Sea Turtles, Sharks, or to just keep swimming(JKS1)to the second transport method. The first transport method delivers them to the second transport method: Sea turtlesdeliver them to the East Australia Current(EAC), Sharks deliver them to the Fish School(FS). If Nemo doesn’t like the second transport option they can just choose to keep swimming(JKS2)and skip the second transport. The second transport method will deliver Nemo to the final transport options: a whale or a pelican. The whale or pelican will then deliver Nemo to Sydney. Each method takes an amount of time and a level of effort. For example, Sharks will move quickly but it will cost Nemo a lot of energy to keep up with them. On the other hand the turtles will be slower, but require very little energy since Nemo can ride on their backs. Nemo measures energy cost by the number of food pellets needed per hour. Nemo has a backpack (don’t ask me how a fish can wear a backpack, ok? Just go with it…) that holds food pelletsto eat on the journey. The table below shows the time per hour for each leg of the journey. Help Nemo figure out the best way to get from home to Sydney. Table 2 shows the cost in pellets per hour for each journey method.
