Employees who are permitted to use their own devices at work create a more efficient and relaxed work environment that can benefit both the company and the employee. This can, however, also cause more harm than good. When employees can access the company’s internet from their own devices, it can open a lot of risks and exposures for them. In the case of “BYOD,” many risks are related to privacy concerns for the employer and the employee. The organization may suffer security risks associated with BYOD, including lost and/or stolen devices, employees leaving the company, viruses, and unsecured wireless networks. Networks and individual computers can both be secured by firewalls. Also, they can automatically intervene when there is an instance of data leak, unauthorized access, or malicious behavior. In either case, an administrator is notified, or the action is blocked.Access by users without restrictions can result in accidental data exposure. Keeping the data on your network secure also means making sure that certain employees cannot access specific types of data. You should allow your IT department to set access levels, create policies that restrict how employees use company data, and require employees to sign a security agreement when they are hired.
