Organizational Performance Management
Introduction
Nursing leadership is the most important position in healthcare system. The leadership roles and responsibilities of nurse leaders are essential elements in the nursing management. Nurse leaders play an important role in managing healthcare services and ensuring organizational performance. Nurse leaders are required to be well prepared with the changing concepts of nursing leadership and management of healthcare issues (Saint et al., 2012). I am a nurse leader specialized in correctional healthcare where I deal with correctional population. Correctional population refers to patients from prison systems. I have worked with correctional population throughout my nursing career and this experience has provided and enhanced my nursing skills. The skills have contributed to my development of expertise that have provided me with the understanding of the important aspects of nursing leadership. Nursing leadership requires essential skills and expertise to promote effective management of organizational performance and healthcare setting. As a nurse leader, I have the responsibility of ensuring effective performance of outcome measures in various departments, service areas and units in healthcare. 聽The performance of outcome measures can be determined by using various indicators such as performance, quality, patient safety and employee engagement.

Processes that Drive each of the above Outcome Measure
The rate of patient admission is determined by the registration process. The rate of patient admission promotes continuity of care, which is an important aspect in the healthcare system. Improvement in continuity of care improves the patients鈥 health. Poor registration process will delay the admission process thus affecting the performance of the healthcare system. The efficiency in registration process can be achieved by assigning the registration responsibility to staff member with care experience (Manary, Boulding, Staelin & Glickman, 2013).
The length of stay in healthcare system is influenced by the processes of the health care setting. The inflow and outflow of patients in healthcare determines the performance of the healthcare system. Appropriate strategies should be established to improve the flow of patients such as the use of elective procedures. The smooth flow of these activities will reduce overcrowding, delays and handling of patients thus increasing the effectiveness in performance of the healthcare system (Manary, Boulding, Staelin & Glickman, 2013).
The rate of bed occupancy is driven by the patient admission and scheduling process. Patient admission and scheduling process should be conducted based on several factors. For instance, the hospital should put into consideration various factors such as the size of the hospital, the available facilities and beds to serve the patients and the available staff to provide patient care. Failure to consider the above mentioned factors will contribute to overcrowding thus promoting increased spread of new infections among patients (Manary, Boulding, Staelin & Glickman, 2013).
Mortality rate is influenced by the clinical governance processes. The quality of clinical care has great effects on the life or death and outcome of patients. The clinical governance process will determine the average number of deaths experienced in a healthcare system. A healthcare system with poor clinical governance will result in increased number of deaths due to poor quality of patient care. A nurse leader should ensure that all departments have effective governance to facilitate provision of quality care to patients thus reducing the mortality rate (Ferrer et al., 2008).
Readmission rates are facilitated by the clinical care process. The quality of care delivered to patients determines the health outcomes. The readmission rates are an indicator of the quality of care delivered by the health care nurses. Developing an organizational culture that is centered on patient experience will promote quality of care. Improvement of quality care promotes patient satisfaction thus reducing the rates of readmission (Ferrer et al., 2008).
Patterns of treatment determine the quality of health condition in correctional patients. Patterns of treatments in healthcare centers are driven by the availability of health care facilities and the presence of competent nurses. The patterns of treatment for correctional population are very critical aspect that should be handled with care. To achieve quality of patient care, the patterns of treatment should be efficient, timely and appropriate for the delivery of healthcare system (Ferrer et al., 2008).
Medical errors are contributed by poor medical-dispensing processes. Medical errors result in poor health outcomes that have compromised the safety of patients on medical system. A nurse leader should ensure that nurses maintain their professionalism, observe the medical policies, provide quality patient care and ensure nurses have medical knowledge (Moorhead, 2013).
