The project for ATC has been moving along nicely. You have made your selection on an aggregate supplier and will be placing the basement walls and footings within the next couple of days. You are now contacting some asphalt companies to get some quotes on the parking lot and roadways leading into the new ATC headquarters. But once again, ATC’s CEO has been doing research on asphalt and now has some questions.

The CEO has apparently been reading that asphalt requires storm water management. Storm water management can be costly and unfriendly to the environment. The CEO is saying that current regulations require that storm water runoff is becoming more and more expensive. Therefore, due to this additional expense the CEO has discovered that an alternative to asphalt and storm water runoff costs is pervious concrete.

Pervious concrete, says the CEO, retains storm water on-site. Pervious concrete reduces storm water runoff by allowing water to naturally flow into the soil beneath. This means the water is being naturally recharged with less pollutants into streams, rivers, and ponds. The CEO is now requesting your opinion, should you be using asphalt or pervious concrete for the parking lots and roadways leading into the new headquarters.

You now have to respond to the CEOs questions. Therefore, do some research on Pervious Concrete and Asphalt. Draw a conclusive decision as to how you will proceed with the project. Do not request feedback from the CEO. This is your conclusion based on your research.

Lastly, if while researching various pavement possibilities, if you discover another option, discuss that option in your response to the CEO. If you feel that the third option is more reasonable, use that as your conclusion.
